Mac users are out of luck as Magix Music Maker only works on Windows-based computers. It runs on Windows 7 & above. You could, however, install Windows on your Mac.
Although I don’t know any pro music producer using Magix Music Maker to produce music, I think it’s a great beginner DAW software for most starter music producers or non-musicians trying to go into music. The DAW software works with any audio interface that you have, so recording into it isn’t an issue at all.
I like to think of Magix Music Maker as ‘the Garageband’ for Windows computers.
What does Magix Music Maker free comes included with?
You get 435 sounds & loops, three instruments & eight effects to produce music with the free version. You can freely add as many effects or instrument tracks with no limitations.
It also allows you to record, edit, arrange & mix music just like how you would on a normal DAW. Upon finishing your mix, you can also export your mix in different audio formats, from MP3 to Wav.
An honest Magix Music Maker review
I personally find Magix Music Maker DAW to be quite a non-polished DAW. Then again keeping in mind that the DAW is aimed for the starter producer or the singer-songwriter who doesn’t want to meddle with too much software.
While it feels like a kiddy DAW to me, I must admit simple recording and music-making is possible on it. The DAW is aimed towards quick music-making, where you drag ‘soundpools’ which are loops & samples found under the media pool into your arrange track, quickly making up a track.
Drag effects into your arrangementInstruments For Magix Music Maker Free Download
Even the effect presets can be dragged and dropped into sections of your arrangement. While I personally didn’t find too much value in that, I honestly think beginners would love this feature.
The premium edition also features very interesting plugins that do time-stretching, pitch-shifting & vocal tuning. You also get VST plugin support with the premium edition, so you can use 3rd party VST plugins within Magix Music maker, which can come pretty handy if you plan on bumping up your music game.
Who is Magix Music Maker for?
Take the free version for a spin & try making a track or two before purchasing the premium version. Chances are you either hate it or love it.
If you’re someone who isn’t looking to go deep into music production and only want to quickly record or create some simple tracks, then Magix Music Maker might feel user-friendly to you.
But if you’re a professional music producer who likes going granular and wants to tweak every single knob or settings, then I’ll advise skipping Magix Music Maker altogether and start out on a more serious DAW, like Cubase, Logic X, Pro Tools, Studio One or Ableton Live.

What is Magix Music Maker?
Magix Music Maker is a DAW or Digital Audio Workstation. This kind of software is an interface to develop a way of composing musical pieces through the use of samples and different plug-ins, which hugely expand the possibilities.
Have you ever wondered how electronic music is made? Precisely, thanks to programs like Magix Music Maker. This is one of the best music creation programs for beginners or people starting out in the world of beats. You can create and assemble different effects and loops in a quick and easy way, as it has both an extensive library of loops and a practical drag and drop system, which facilitates its use.
Magix Music Maker Premium 2019
There are several different versions of the software, each of them managing to satisfy the needs of different types of users, but it falls short at the professional level since it has certain limitations for the more advanced users. Besides having an extensive library of loops and sounds, it also has different virtual instruments that will help you to fully personalize your songs.
Magix Music Maker Review
Magix Music Maker is a very complete program for all those who are starting in the world of musical creation. Several important aspects you should know about this software:
- Free loops: It has a library of 425 free sounds and loops. Each of these sounds and loops can be modified by the user, either by adding an effect, turning up or down the volume, in short, everything you can do with sounds in a beat editor.
- Integrated Store: Music Maker comes with an integrated store where you can purchase new sounds as well as expand the effects library. Depending on which version you have, you’ll have more things to buy.
- Virtual Instruments: With a gallery of 24 virtual instruments available, you can choose the amount corresponding to the plan you choose. With these instruments, you expand the catalog of available sounds, as you can combine and play the instruments as you wish. If you wish to purchase more instruments than the quantity available in the different plans, you can purchase them in the integrated store that comes with Music Maker.
- Drag and drop: You can drag and drop effects, loops, instrument sounds, whatever. This simplified way of working makes your learning curve not difficult to master, in a short time you will be making more and better music.
- Live instruments: you can include the melodies from real instruments you have and know how to play, increasing by yourself the amount of sounds available in the software. You can add and record your voice to use as part of the song.

Is Magix Music Maker free?
The final cost of Magix Music Maker will depend a lot on the plan you choose and the extras you buy if any. The prices of the plans, which were consulted at the time of this Magix Music Maker review, are as follows:
- Magix Music Maker: Totally free
- Magix Music Maker Plus Edition: $59
- Magix Music Maker Premium Edition: $79
If you have a previous version, the update costs you $69. This is a one-time payment that is made, forget about the subscription systems that make you pay month by month.
Things I liked
- It’s easy of use: Magix Music Maker is incredibly easy to use, with a simple and well-kept interface, a drag and drop system that even the novice can master in no time and a quick and easy installation.
- Its price: Among the prices of other similar products, this software is one of the cheapest on the market, in addition to offering a completely free edition that you can download quickly from their website.
- Their sound library: More than 400 loops and sounds available, and I’m only talking about the free version, as paid plans multiply that number. It has a pretty extensive library, with different music genres.
Things I didn’t like
- It’s not for professionals: Magix Music Maker is focused on the amateur or beginner audience, as it falls a little short of options to recommend its use in a professional way.
- Only for Windows: A Mac OS version is needed, as it is currently only available for Windows.
Magix Music Maker Review | Final thoughts
Magix Music Maker is an ideal program for people who are just starting out in the world of beats creation, or who have it as a hobby. Do not expect to use it for life, because if you make constant use of it and learn everything you need, there will come a time when you will fall short and decide to try other software.
It’s an excellent program for its price, since you can even use it for free. Its library of sounds and loops is extensive, and with the ability to expand further. In general, I recommend the use of the software, if you want to know how it is, just download the free version and try it.
Alternatives to Magix Music Maker
If you want to try a similar program, take a look at these possible alternatives:
FL STUDIO
FL Studio began its life as Fruity Loops, the popular beat/rhythm/loop editor that has been used by numerous artists and producers around the world. It offers a vector user interface that looks great on high-resolution monitors, a redesigned mixer, and updates for several of its software plugins.
FL Studio is today a good choice to start in the professional world of music creation. Its strength remains perhaps in the ease of getting started, with the tools and libraries it offers from default and a good mixing console, rather than a more traditional approach to what a recording studio is.
Things I liked
- Learning curve. Although, like any professional DAW, it is a program that requires a lot of experience to take full advantage of its performance, the FL studio learning curve is somewhat more accessible compared to other software in the same category.
- It has one of the best and most active online communities, so it is very easy to find support, forums and online resources.
- Free updates for life.
Things I didn’t like
- At an advanced professional level FL studio is still a bit behind other music production software.
Instruments For Magix Music Maker
PRO TOOLS
Pro Tools has long been the industry standard for professional recording studio software. The latest version of Pro Tools sets the bar very high again with its 64-bit audio engine and low latency handling, playback and recording. Pro Tools is also expandable to Pro Tools HD, which has incredible recording capabilities, but is expensive compared to other digital audio workflow software.
Things I liked
- It is considered the one and only “standard” for many of the big music studios worldwide.
- Allows audio recording.
- Great sound engine.
- It is still one of the tools preferred by the best producers and technicians in the world when it comes to mixing and mastering.
Things I didn’t like
- The functionalities to handle MIDI and virtual instruments still have a lot to improve.
- Tough learning curve.
- It has evolved more slowly than the competition.
- Pricey.
